Standards of Quality
The founders/operators of Arts North, being juried crafts artists themselves, respected the talent and creativity they saw in their fellow resident artists in Nova Scotia and, in particular, on Cape Breton Island.
In establishing a gallery that offered only Cape Breton products yet demanded the highest quality standards, they added a third, less “formal” criterium, suggesting that whenever possible, the theme of “Cape Breton’s environmental beauty being interpreted by its resident artists”.
So, the criteria for work being included in the “Arts North Collection” is as follows:
1) The work must be created by a resident of Cape Breton Island;
2) The work must meet recognised standards of excellence in craft as judged by a jury of crafts artists;
3) Whenever possible, the work should reflect some aspect of Cape Breton’s environmental beauty, wildlife, cultural traditions or the beauty of its people.
ALL the work offered you at Arts North meets the first two criteria, and just about everything in some way meets the third requirement as well.
…and we’re pretty proud of that!
We encourage you to look further into this site to see what each of us brings to Arts North, and then to visit the gallery at the northern tip of the Cabot Trail.
